Stress Concentration¶
Validation of stress concentration factor predictions against classical analytical solutions.
2.1 Circular Hole — Uniaxial Load (Kirsch Problem)¶
A large plate with a small circular hole at the center, subjected to uniform uniaxial tension. The analytical stress concentration factor is Kt = 3.0.
2.2 Circular Hole — Biaxial Load¶
The same geometry under equal biaxial tension. Superposition of two uniaxial cases gives a peak stress concentration of Kt = 4.0.
2.3 Elliptical Hole (Inglis Problem)¶
A plate with an elliptical hole under uniaxial load. For a 2:1 aspect ratio, the analytical solution gives Kt = 1 + 2(a/b) = 5.0.
